Husker Du

On this date in 1982, Husker Du released their debut studio album, Everything Falls Apart. No singles were released from the album. The Minneapolis, Minnesota band initially gained attention as a hardcore punk band but their music slowed down with time. They disbanded in 1987. The Minneapolis scene also produced The Replacements and The Suburbs.

The Sex Pistols

Biography
Sex Pistols are an iconic and highly influential English punk rock band, formed in London in 1975. They are the first punk rock band to take the music down an anarchic, nihilistic path, thus influencing the shape of punk for several generations after. The band originally comprised vocalist Johnny Rotten, guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook, and bassist Glen Matlock, who would later leave the band and be replaced by Sid Vicious.

Sex Pistols were managed by the infamous Malcolm McLaren, after he saw Johnny Rotten sporting a Pink Floyd shirt with “I hate” scribbled on. Impressed by Johnny Rotten’s attitude, McLaren brought Rotten to audition for frontman of The Strand, the band that would later become Sex Pistols. Although their initial career lasted only three years and produced only four singles and one studio album, Nevermind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols, Sex Pistols have been described by the BBC as “the definitive English punk rock band” and are widely credited with initiating the punk movement in the United Kingdom and creating the first generation gap within rock and roll.

Sex Pistols emerged as a response to what was perceived to be the increasingly safe and bloated progressive rock and manufactured pop music of the mid-1970s. The band created various controversies during their brief career, which captivated England but often eclipsed their music. Their shows and tours repeatedly faced difficulties from authorities, and public appearances often ended in disaster and riot. Their 1977 single, PlayGod Save the Queen, coincidentally released during the build up to the Queen’s Silver Jubilee, was widely regarded as an attack on the British monarchy and British Nationalism.

The group broke up in 1978 amid a turbulent tour of the United States, but reunited in 1996 for the “Filthy Lucre” tour, and have staged subsequent reunion tours in 2002 and 2003. On 24 February 2006, Sex Pistols were officially inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but refused to attend the induction, calling the museum a “piss stain”.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut album, Sex Pistols reunited for 7 live shows. They played 5 nights at the Brixton Academy in London between 8 November and 14 November, 1 night at the MEN Arena in Manchester, and 1 night at the SECC in Glasgow.

Against Me

Against Me! - The Original Cowboy (2009)
The Original Cowboy is an album of demos recorded by Against Me! in 2003. The demos were recorded prior to the band's second full-length, As the Eternal Cowboy.

The demos were recorded and mixed in only a few hours on July 15, 2003 at Goldenstone Studio with Rob McGregor, who had produced the band's prior full-length and 2 previous EPs. The band wanted to record the album in analog with minimal overdubs, which they could do at Ardent Studios, where As the Eternal Cowboy was eventually recorded. However, they wanted to keep McGregor as producer, so they recorded this demo to ensure he was familiar with the songs before arriving at Ardent.

Regarding the demos, lead singer Tom Gabel remarked: "Recorded and mixed in only a couple of hours, The Original Cowboy was only meant to be a trial run, but, listening to it today, there's a part of me that feels foolish for ever recording these songs a second time."

"Unsubstantiated Rumors" was released for free download on June 25, 2009.[2] The full album leaked to several BitTorrent sites shortly thereafter.
