Strung Out

The band formed in 1992 in Simi Valley, California. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Jason Cruz, guitarists Jake Kiley and Rob Ramos, bassist Jim Cherry and drummer Adam Austin. After releasing a self-titled 7" record, they became one of the first bands to be signed to Fat Wreck Chords, the record label owned and operated by Fat Mike of the band NOFX. Austin left the band in 1992 and was replaced by Brad Morrison who also left the band and was replaced on drums by Jordan Burns, formerly of fellow Simi Valley natives Ten Foot Pole. Their first album, Another Day in Paradise, was released in May 1994. Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues followed in 1996. In 1998 they released The Skinny Years...Before We Got Fat, a compilation album of their pre-Fat Wreck Chords material.

The band showed notable musical growth on their 1998 album Twisted by Design, which was both speedy and technical but also with darker overtones. The album established a mixture of the fast, poppy sound the band had established with Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues but mixed it with more atonality and more abstract song structures.

Bassist Jim Cherry left the band in 1999 and went on to play in Pulley and Zero Down, but died of heart failure in 2002. He was replaced by Chris Aiken, whose musical background had a strong impact on the 2000 album The Element of Sonic Defiance.

In 2002 the band released their fourth full-length album An American Paradox, their first release to appear in the Billboard Top 200. The initial production run contained a bonus song entitled "Don't Look Back". A video was filmed for the song "Cemetery" and was included on several punk rock video compilations. In 2003 they recorded and released a live album as part of the Fat Wreck Chords Live in a Dive series. Exile in Oblivion, was released in 2004, with a video filmed for the song "Analog." Strung Out recently finished recording their sixth full-length album, Blackhawks Over Los Angeles, which was released June 12, 2007.

While on tour with Evergreen Terrace in the fall of 2007 in Philadelphia PA, the band's van was stolen, which contained their equipment, merchandise, and personal belongings. The band continued the tour, traveling and playing with instruments provided by supporting acts I Am Ghost and Evergreen Terrace. Surprisingly, the same event has happened to ska/punk act Suburban Legends at the same hotel.

When they are not touring or making music, Jason Cruz enjoys life as an artist, Jordan is a co-owner of Moto XXX along with NOFX drummer Erik Sandin. Rob Ramos works in the film industry, and Jake gives occasional musical lessons.

In March 2009, Strung Out released a collection of rarities & b-sides entitled Prototypes and Painkillers. The album will be the second such compilation from the band who previously compiled material on The Skinny Years: Before We Got Fat in 1998.

On September 29, 2009, Strung Out plan on releasing a their 7th studio album titled Agents of the Underground.

In October 2009, Strung Out will be touring with Nations Afire.

Panda

Panda

The band was formed by José Madero, Jorge Garza, Ricardo Treviño, and David Castillo, all from Monterrey, Nuevo León. The band started playing covers but when they realized they were good writing their own songs they started writing songs about friends, parties and love. Those songs were placed on a demo tape, Demo 1997, and distributed to independent labels. Soon after that, David Castillo departed Panda and was replaced by Super Azfalto's former drummer, Jorge Vásquez. They caught the attention of an independent label, Movic Records, and signed a record deal (by Kiko Lobo).
[edit] Arroz con leche and La revancha del príncipe charro (2000-2004)

Their first studio album, "Arroz con leche", was released in September 2, 2001, and caught little attention by people and critics, only selling 50,000 copies. Their second album, "La revancha del príncipe charro," was released February 3, 2002, a short time after "Arroz con leche". "La revancha del príncipe charro" sold well, and reached platinum in Mexico. Part of the success of that record was due to the combination of punk and rock sounds. The album also contained a cover from Joan Sebastian and Alberto Vazquez's duet song, Maracas.

The band toured in the United States and Mexico to promote their album. At the end of the tour, Jorge Garza left the band and was replaced by another member from Super Azfalto, this time guitarist Arturo Arredondo.
[edit] Para ti con desprecio and Amantes sunt amentes (2005-2007)

A third album, Para ti con desprecio, was released in 2005. It is their most popular album to date in Mexico and Latin America, although it lost them many fans, now called Anti-Pandas, because Panda supposedly stole lyrics and guitar riffs from groups such as My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, and Smashing Pumpkins. The singles "Cita en el Quirofano", "Cuando no es como debiera ser", and "Disculpa los malos pensamientos" topped MTV's Los 10+Pedidos for 39 weeks in total. "Disculpa los malos pensamientos" was also the most voted video on MTV in 2006[1] That same year, the band collaborated in the soundtrack of "Skimo", a Mexican sitcom from Nickelodeon, with the song "Si esto fuese realidad".

At the end of the year, the band released Amantes Sunt Amentes, their fourth album, which reached the top of the Mexican charts within weeks and was certified platinum. To date, the album has sold approximately 200,000 copies, and has become one of the top selling Mexican rock albums of all time. The album's first single, Narcisista Por Excelencia, reached the Mexican Top 10 and was a top 40 hit in Latin America.

During this time the band released their second single, "Los Malaventurados no Lloran". The song reached staggering digital success in Mexico and became a success in other parts of Latin America, peaking within the top 40 of the Latin America Top 100. The music video has received heavy rotation in MTV.

In February 2007, the band collaborated in the album "Tributo al más grande", a tribute album for Mexican norteña band "Bronco". The band recorded the song "Oro" with a new rock style. The singer José Madero, accompanied Guadalupe Esparza and Luis Cortes in the song "Amigo Bronco".

In mid July, the band released a third single: Procedimientos Para Llegar A Un Comun Acuerdo. Because of the extensive success of the band's previous single, the song was sent to radio stations in all of Latin America at the same time. Procedimientos quickly debuted in some of the important Latin charts, ultimately reaching the top 10 in many countries.

In November 30, 2007, Panda released "Sinfonía Soledad", their first live album that contains a concert on Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City. It contains their main songs and two new songs dedicated to their fans.

The band was nominated in Los Premios MTV Latinoamérica 2006, winning the categories Best Group or Duet, Best Alternative Artist, and Breakthrough Artist. The band performed "Narcicista por excelencia" during the show. In Los Premios MTV Latinoamérica 2007, the band was nominated for three categories, but only won Best Alternative Artist.
[edit] Controversy

In 2005, the Mexican magazine R & R published an article stating that several Panda songs, mainly from the album Para ti con Desprecio, were similar to songs from other bands of similar genres (mainly in the lyrics where they are virtually translations), such as: My Chemical Romance, Green Day, MxPx, Blink 182, Sum 41 and Fall Out Boy. They have even been sued by Green Day. The fines to Movic and Panda Records, which amounted to over 600,000 euros, for the plagiarism of the songs "Dry Ice" and "At the library".

After the scandal, reporters have since mentioned this to the band every time they are interviewed. In the interview published on February 31, 2006, on Versus, a T.V. show from Telehit, when they asked questions about the plagiarism, the band members show up on the defensive and respond in contradictory ways: For example, Kross, drummer for the band states: "But we didn't steal, it's was coincidentally, I don't know... It was not done purposely, it was not made with any malicious intent, so I don't know, the subconscious betrays you ..."

With the release of their fourth album "Amantes Sunt Amentes" and the growth in popularity of the band on MTV in other countries, they do not avoid the topic, but prefer to change the topic. Ricardo Trevino, bassist for the band said: "There are peoplewho said: love or hate Panda. I think we are more than those who hate us listen, then why would you discuss those things?

The accusations of plagiarism caused many people to reject Panda. , these groups call themselves Anti Pandas, and have expressed their position through different websites, Youtube, MySpace and Facebook, as well as festivals where Panda plays. The Anti Pandas says that the list of plagiarism of Panda stands at more than 35 songs.

Panda has been booed in different festivals, such as the 2007 edition of Rock'N'Exa, where the public threw bottles, trash, and other things at them while they played.

The same thing happened in 2008 at the Vive Latino[9] , and the Third International Rock Festival in Rio.(wikipedia)

Star Fucking Hipsters

Star Fucking Hipsters is a ska-punk/Indie band that was started by Leftöver Crack's Stza as a side project. The line-up originally included vocalist Kisston from "Help Me Help Me I Can't Breathe", guitarist Jamie Toulan from Old Skull, and drummer GG from "Another Dying Democracy". The band started playing shows in the New York City area early in August 2005. This line-up lasted for two shows before they disbanded. A few years later, Stza enlisted a whole new group of musicians, again calling themselves Star Fucking Hipsters. The band now consists of Sturgeon, Frank Piegaro, Nico de Gaillo, Yula Beeri, and Ara Babajian. Their debut album was released by Fat Wreck Chords on Tuesday September 30, 2008 and is entitled "Until We're Dead," though it was originally to be titled "Allergic To People".

On December 23, 2008, Star Fucking Hipsters released a music video for "Two Cups of Tea".
The band is currently recording a follow up album for Alternative Tentacles.

Athena

Band history
http://www.eurosong.ru/euro/img/2004/athena001.gif

Athena (ah-T'hěn-ah) was formed by twin brothers Gökhan Özoğuz and Hakan Özoğuz in 1987. They started their musical life as a metal band, but switched to the ska genre sometime later.

Until 1999 they performed numerous concerts and paved their way to their first album Holigan. Athena's ska sound and songs were welcomed by the local record buying public so much so that the title song Holigan was adopted as a march by football supporters of all ages at the stadiums. The album hit various Turkish charts and stayed at the top for a considerable amount of time. Shortly after releasing the Holigan' album, Athena took a large scale tour in Turkey. One of the significant moments of the tour was their show at Açikhava Tiyatrosu in Istanbul, followed by their role as a support act for the Rolling Stones concert at Ali Sami Yen Stadium, home to the Turkish football club Galatasaray, which they consider to be the most important performance of their career.

Athena was the face of Turkey as part of the Millennium Concert at Taksim Square in Istanbul on the first night of the 2000, and made millions of people experience an unforgettable night welcoming the new millennium. The said concert was broadcast live by NTV channel to the world. Athena was invited to Popkomm Festival held in Köln, Germany and performed with the Beastie Boys. WDR, the leading radio channel in Germany, broadcasted Athena’s concert live.

The second album “Tam Zamanı Şimdi” was released and the first single Yas¸amak Var Ya was an instant hit. The album sales reached gold status in an extremely short time. Their tour was sold out as a result of their exploding popularity. They performed a series of concerts in Germany pairing up with the famous German ska band The Fritz. After the tour, their song Devam Boşver included on the album ‘World of Ska Volume 11’’ which was released in Europe by a pioneering ska label Pork Pie Records. Then came one of the major events in Athena’s career, the “12 Dev Adam” (12 Giant Men). The song they recorded for the Turkish National Basketball Team had also an immense success in Europe. The Turkish National Basketball Team finished runner-up in The European Championships and many European newspapers commented that the song, sang by the team’s supporters during the games, led the team play better.

In January 2002, Athena’s new album Her Şey Yolunda was released. Their 2 songs from this album, Öpücük’ 'and Beyoğlu’' were major hits. 2003 was a particularly busy year for Athena. While the large tour for their latest album was in progress, they started an anti-war movement against the Iraqi war, and Athena contributed the movement with a song No Need for War, and performed with many other musicians. Athena was the guest group at the huge dance show directed by Beyhan Murphy for Turkish Opera and Ballet. They also performed as a headliner group at the H2000 Festival June 2003, with Starsailor. Athena ended their tour as one of the local headliners at the biggest event of the year the Rock'n Coke Festival which included such bands and artists as Pet Shop Boys, The Cardigans, Suede, Simple Minds, Sugababes, Dirty Vegas. In January 2004 Athena performed at a series of concerts in the Netherlands which appealed to the Dutch public.

After that, on May 15 2004 Athena represented Turkey at the Eurovision Song Contest with For Real. In an unprecedented result, a punk rock band finished 4th in a contest where punk was thought to be unappealing to a mass audience. Athena were the media darlings of the European media at the time. After Eurovision, Athena’s maxi single For Real was released in Germany and Greece. Athena’s first concert European – Turkish Festival was in Germany – Berlin after ESC was broadcasted live by TRT (Turkish National TV).

After this concert, Athena was the guest at TV Total, Germany’s number one talk show. They performed live at the programme, creating a large fanbase in Germany in the process. In June 2004 Athena’s new album US released in Turkey. This album also released in Germany at the end of July. The band also started working on their English album, which then hit the shelves in May 2005. Athena then performed in a series of concerts that sold out to tens of thousands. Athena often performs at Fenerbahçe football games, being die-hard supporters of the club. In 2007 Athena made an album special for Fenerbahçe's 100th anniversary.(wikipedia)

http://classifieds.thestranger.com/photos/4492ac48f14b53e602e3783eb11051c6/Interm-1200696075-1.jpg

Random Orbits is a band of 3 college students who found themselves stuck in Ellensburg where country radio takes over the airwaves and the local rodeo is the towns main attraction. Emerging from the drunken red neck town comes Random Orbits, a band that's influences range on almost all aspects of the musical spectrum and they use their love of all music to create one of the biggest and most eclectic sounds a three piece has made in quite some time.

After losing all of their equipment in a fire of Spring 2007 they began recording their debut full length album on borrowed instruments at the Art Institute of Seattle with producer Ken Lapworth. After 7 long months of driving back and forth between Ellensburg and Seattle and trying to manage class, shows and recording they released their debut album "REAL FRIENDS FIX THE RUN" on December 1st 2007. Random Orbits is now supporting their record with shows all over the northwest and a west coast tour being planned for August 2008. Random Orbits drops into the Seattle area about once a month for a show, check them out because the show will be worth your time and dollar!

Teenage Bottlerocket

Teenage Bottlerocket
http://entimg.msn.com/img/prov_ap/200_80/pic200/drP600/P616/P61664YTOUB.jpg
Teenage Bottlerocket (2001 - present) are a pop punk band from Laramie, Wyoming.
The band was formed by twin brothers Ray and Brandon Carlisle, following the dissolution of their previous band, Homeless Wonders, in 2000. Their music is heavily influenced by Kody's other band, The Lillingtons, and earlier pop punk acts such as the Ramones, ALL, Screeching Weasel, and the Groovie Ghoulies.
Originally consisting of Ray (bass/vocals), Brandon (drums) , and Zach Doe (guitar), the band released their debut EP A Bomb on a Laramie communal label, One Legged Pup, in 2002. Soon after, Doe left and went back to Chicago, leaving the twins without a guitarist until they found University of Wyoming Music Major Joel Pattinson. In 2003 they wrote and recorded their first full length LP Another Way, also released on One Legged Pup. The release was vinyl only (the first 500 on pink vinyl), released on Halloween night 2003. The band continued to play and promote numerous local shows, even landing some opening spots in Laramie with All and The Ataris. The band was to embark on a short summer tour of the midwest in 2004. When Pattinson couldn't make the trip due to his obligations to the University Orchestra, the Carlisles called up their old friend Kody to play guitar on the tour. The tour went well, and they ended up playing some of the new songs that Kody had written, and by the end of the tour, he was a permanent member of the band.

In late 2004 and early 2005 the band recorded their Red Scare debut full length, Total which contains dual vocals from Ray and Kody. After Total was released, the Groovie Ghoulies took notice of the band, and offered them a spot on their Space Stationstage at the Vans Warped Tour. Soon after, the Ghoulies decided to drop Warped Tour, and embark with Bottlerocket, and The Teenage Harlets on the Teen Kicks Tour 2005. They would go on to play shows with The Methadones, Chixdiggit, and The Mr. T Experience. In the summer of 2006, Bottlerocket embarked on another nationwide tour, this time with Fat Wreck Chords new wave act, the Epoxies.

On December 28, 2007, the band filmed their first music video, for the song In The Basement from the new album Warning Device out on Red Scare Records.

On February 10, 2009 Teenage Bottlerocket was signed to Fat Wreck Chords.Their first album for the label, titled They Came from the Shadows, will be released September 15, 2009.

Joseph Poole, better known as Wednesday 13 (born August 12, 1976), is a rock musician from Charlotte, North Carolina. He is most famous for his role as the frontman of the Murderdolls. He has also played in several other bands, including Psycho Opera, Maniac Spider Trash, the Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13, Wednesday 13, Bourbon Crow and most recently Gunfire 76.

Poole currently resides in Landis, North Carolina, where he lives with his wife Roxanne (Mrs. 13) and his daughter Zoie. Poole is a huge fan of campy horror movie parodies and mildly macabre TV shows such as The Munsters and The Addams Family (the latter being the source of his "Wednesday" moniker), which influence his tongue-in-cheek lyrics. He also created a set of cartoon characters with his wife called the Thirteen Dead Kids, which was released as a clothing line. A book was supposed to be released, though this was halted due to Poole's touring schedule and the lack of publisher.

Ratos de Porão

Ratos de Porão

Ratos de Porão (Portuguese for "Basement Rats") is a Brazilian crossover thrash band from São Paulo. They have been around since 1980, toured South America, North America, and Europe and still continue to play today.

Lead singer João Benedan (better known as João Gordo) is a well-known VJ on MTV Brasil
Ratos de Porão, or simply RxDxPx, was formed in 1980, existing in the Brazilian (São Paulo city) punk rock scene (alongside bands such as Cólera, Inocentes, Garotos Podres, Lobotomia, Olho Seco etc.). Directly influenced by the UK 82 hardcore bands such as Discharge, G.B.H., Varukers and Scandinavian bands as Anti-Cimex and Kaaos, they started to write songs that criticized Brazilian society, a revolutionary concept at the time. Their sound is regarded as one of rawest of their scene (because other bands such as Cólera and Garotos Podres were more 'punk rock' sounding than 'hardcore').

Their first album was released in 1983 and was titled "Crucificados pelo sistema". Released on the Ataque Frontal label, it was one of the fastest hardcore albums to come out of the country, and was soon considered a punk classic worldwide. The line up was João Gordo (vocals), Mingau (guitar - later in many punk and pop bands in Brazil), Jabá (bass) and Jão (drums). Soon after, with the fall of the São Paulo punk scene (because of associated gang violence), the band split up and since then João Gordo has been accused of "selling out" and betraying the DIY ethics of the punk movement for several alleged reasons; he has said, "I'm a traitor since 1983, because I told the guys I played hardcore, not punk. Then, I got labeled.(...)That's a stigma.".[1]

[edit] Initial crossover thrash era

In 1985, RxDxPx came back, but with a different line up and sound. They brought thrash metal to their music, influenced by bands such as Slayer, Exodus, Kreator and hardcore bands around the world that were also transitioning to a more thrash metal sound, like Suicidal Tendencies, D.R.I., English Dogs, G.B.H., Agnostic Front and others (including Brazilian bands like Lobotomia and Armagedom). João switched over to playing guitar, and an old punk named Spaghetti (who later adopted a thrash metal sound) replaced him on drums. Subsequently, they released the Descanse Em Paz LP on Baratos Afins.[when?]

With their new sound, they began to associate more with heavy metal bands, becoming friends with longtime RxDxPx fans Sepultura and other bands of the Brazilian '80s metal scene, like Korzus and Anthares. Their next studio release with Baratos Afins Records, 1987's Cada Dia Mais Sujo e Agressivo, was also released in an English-language version (Dirty and Aggressive) (the band feared that their English was so grammatically inaccurate that many of their native English speaking fans might ridicule their translated lyrics[citation needed]). This release continued the band's D-beat drum tempos.

In 1989, they signed to Roadrunner Records at the urging of Igor Cavalera of Sepultura, who played one of the band's tapes for the label's executives. RxDxPx then went to Germany to record their next studio LP, Brasil. With Harris Johns of Voivod and Tankard producing, the band's production quality improved substantially in contrast to their previous releases; the insturmentation was noticeably more technical.

In 1990, they returned to Germany to record their last album with the 'classic' line-up of João Gordo, Jão, Jabá and Spaghetti. With Harris Johns acting again as producer, their next album titled Anarkophobia was met with criticism by some fans for being the band's most metallic release to date, having considerably more complex and lengthy song compositions and more technical musicianship. Nevertheless, Anarkophobia increased their profile within the worldwide metal scene of the early '90s.

But in mid-1991, they had their first line-up change in years, with Spaghetti leaving the band, citing that he had "been tired of the musical life"[citation needed]. They auditioned several drummers to replace him, including Beto Silesci from Korzus, but the band decided that Silesci's style was too metal for the new direction they were planning to persue. Silesci was in turn replaced with Boka of the Santos Beach thrash metal band Psychic Possessor. In 1992, RxDxPx released its first official live album, called Ao Vivo, with a corresponding music video for the song "Aids, Pop, Repressão" receiving heavy air play on Furia Metal of MTV (the Brazilian equivalent of Headbanger's Ball).(wikipedia)

Terveet Kädet

Terveet Kädet - Bondage And Anguished Life - Bootleg 7'' EP

I like Finnish hardcore punk, especially of the noisiest type, some of it pretty much influenced some of old former Yugoslavia bands, that's sure. So, here is an TK bootleg 7'' I traded back in times with one Polish guy. It is live 21.7.1995., in their original line up, so except nothing but raw in your face hardcore punk here, ending with an classic punk rock cover song. Sound quality is quite OK for what it is, pretty fair booklet really, cover scanned, track titles there, front cover is some fetish / phone sex collage, whole 7'' comes as one mp3, thanx to Igor for ripping / scanning it years ago, not sure how much copies were made but I am sure you won't find it easily on the net, so here it is. Suomi hardcore rules!

Tutto Colori - Demo (1987)

Another short demo from second wave of Beograd, Serbia / former Yugoslavia hardcore punk. It was recorded either in 1986 or 1987, I think this are their only recordings. Aggressive chaotic primitive hardcore thrash punk, anti war lyrics, and raw as hell. I like it, of course, that's why i am posting it, hope you will enjoy it too, especially if Finnish or South American hardcore punk and trash core bands as Lärm, Rapt, Psycho Sin, etc are your thing, former Yugoslavia had that sound too.

Supertones, Superchic[k], The Fold, House of Heroes and Falling Up. Their debut album, The Wedding was produced by Mark Lee Townsend and featured several of their songs which became Christian radio hits, including "Move This City" and "Song for the Broken".[4] Their sophomore effort Polarity peaked at #41 on the U.S. Billboard Christian Albums chart and #26 on the Heatseekers chart.[5]

After former singer Kevin Keihn got married, he decided to depart from the band. Landon Ginnings filled in for him on vocals until their current singer, Matt Shelton, formerly of Letter Kills, joined the band permanently

The Distillers were an American punk rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1998. They released their first two albums on Hellcat Records/Epitaph Records before moving to Sire, part of the Warner Music Group. The Distillers were originally formed by Australian-born Brody Armstrong (later Dalle), a woman with a distinctively harsh singing voice. Ex-wife of Rancid's Tim Armstrong, Brody changed her name to "Dalle" after their divorce in 2003. Although there were significant line-up changes it was Brody who played guitar, sang, and wrote or co-wrote nearly every song on the band's three albums. Tony Bradley also played guitar and Ryan Sinn played bass.

Members Brody and Tony have since the split formed a new band called Spinnerett
